Dre Owens-Senior EHS Basketball

Getting it done on the hardwood is this weeks Male Athlete of the Week, Dre Owens. A Senior guard for the Tigers had a career performance last week in a big road win against the Bees of East Fairmont HS. Dre scored a game-high 20 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Those numbers will get a lot of people’s attention, but Head Coach Amrit Rayfield also complimented his efforts on the defensive end, stating Dre had a great all-around game for the Tigers. We are proud of Dre and the entire Tiger team on their victory on the road! Keep up the intensity and good luck to Dre and the Tigers!

Hannah Phillips-Junior EHS Swim Team

This week we head to the pool to see the Female Athlete of the Week, Hannah Phillips.
In a home meet going against Dodridge County HS and East Fairmont, Hannah had a spectacular individual and team showing! She placed 1st in the Individual 200 and 500 Freestyle races and was a member of the 200 medley and 400 Freestyle relay teams which both finished in 1st as well! The Tigers took 1st place overall in the meet. Hannah continues to have an awesome swim season and we can’t wait to see how far her and the Tigers can go this year! Congrats to Hannah and the Lady Tigers Swim team!

Austin Whetsell-Swimming

This weeks Male Athlete of the Week is Austin Whetsell, a member of the Tigers swim team.
Last week in a home meet against Buckhannon-Upshur HS and Liberty HS the Tiger boys team captured 1st place as they were paced by the strong swimming of Austin. He finished 1st in the 200m Freestyle and the 100m breaststroke individually and 1st place in the 200m relay with Looney-Sanders, Anger, and Ludwig. He also was a member of the 400m freestyle relay. Congrats to Austin and the entire Tigers swim team! The hard work and dedication continues to pay off! Proud of all the Tiger Swim team members!

Anna Belan-Girls Basketball

This week we honor Anna Belan as our Female Athlete of the Week. Last Thursday, Anna came up big for the Lady Tigers getting a much needed Conference win against RCB at home. Anna finished the game with a career high 18 points, 10 of which came in the 2nd quarter. Her play in then2nd sparked the Lady Tigers who went on a big run to extend their lead and never looked back. Congrats to Anna and the entire Tiger team. Keep up the great work.

Joslyn DeWeese-Freshman Swim Team

Starting off our Female Athlete of the Week in 2020 is Freshman newcomer Joslyn DeWeese. Last week in a home swim meet against Notre Dame High and North Marion High, she took 1st place in the 200 IM and was part of the 1st place 400 meter freestyle relay team! Coach Cain commented that Joslyn has continued to work very hard each week and continues to improve her times. Her future is bright with such a hard work ethic! Congratulations to Joslyn and good luck to the entire Tiger Swim team in 2020!

Blake Harris-Senior Basketball Player

Last week against Lincoln High School, Blake burned the nets from 3-point land! He finished the game with 7 three-pointers! That placed him tied for second place for the most 3’s in a single game in Elkins High history! He finished the game with a game high 25 points. 17 of them in the 3rd quarter where he knocked down 5 of his 7 three pointers! We are excited about the New Year and what Blake and the Tiger hoops squad can accomplish! Good luck in 2020!

Charlie Smoak EHS Cross Country

Sophomore Charlie Smoak has earned Male Athlete of the Week honors for his performance last week at the Big 10 Conference Championships. He placed 16th overall with a time of 18:25.81 which earned him All-Conference honors and helped the Tigers earn a 6th place finish. Congratulations to Charlie and the entire Tiger team. Keep up the great work. Good luck in Regionals this Thursday!

Kiley Edwards EHS Cross Country

Last week during the Big 10 Conference Championships Freshman Kiley Edwards had a terrific race, posting a 19th overall finish for the Tigers. A time of 22.36.75 was enough to earn her All-Conference honors. We would like to say congratulations to Kiley and the entire Lady Tigers CC team. Good luck this Thursday as Elkins is the host of the Regional Class AA-A II meet at Davis & Elkins College at 1pm.
