Anna Belan is not new to our female athlete of the week and she is out to make her senior year her best year yet! The senior captain has been playing solid for Coach Cutright and last week she netted a pair of goals in the Lady Tigers win over North Marion. He has shown great ball control during play and seizing opportunities as he closes in on the box and goalkeeper. Congrats to Max and the entire Tiger soccer team. Keep up the great work!
Female & Male Athletes of the Week
Alexa Price – Girls Soccer
Tanner Miller – Golf
Featured in our Week 1 Athletes of the Week we head to the soccer field and the Links. Alexa, a Junior on the girls soccer team has been lighting up the score board with her multiple goals per game. Her speed and knack for the goal has been one reaaon for the Tigers early success.
Tanner, also a Junior, is the Tigers number one seed for the golf team. Each week Tanner has been improving his game and last week he carded a 42 and shared low-medalist scores at Bridgeport in a quad match in the Big 10 conference.
Congrats to both of these student athletes! We are super proud of you and the rest of Tiger Nation!
This week we honor Tiger basketball player Cory Harper. Harper, a sophomore accomplished something that was last managed by Frank Wimer 109 years ago! Cory scored 30 points in a single game as a sophomore. Harper tallied 30 points against the Liberty Mountaineers in front of the home crowd. The Tigers won the game with the strong effort of offense from Harper and a Tiger defense that held Liberty to just 40 points. Congrats to Cory and the Tiger basketball squad!
EPT&SIC is thrilled to announce our Female Athlete of the Week, Gabi Satterfield. Gabi is a Senior cheerleader for the Elkins Tigers. Gabi always has a smile on her face and her enthusiasm and school spirit is contagious. We want to congratulate Gabi and the entire cheer team of EHS! Thank you for your hard work and energy you bring each and every game!
Junior Charlie Smoak captured 1st Place at the WV Class AA Region II championships this past week at Camp Kidd. His time of 17:18 earned the top spot qualifying him for the WV State Championships this weekend at Cabell-Midland HS. This is the 2nd time Charlie has been named Athlete of the Week. Congrats to Charlie and the entire Tiger team. Best of luck this weekend!
This week we congratulate Addie Berdine on being named our Elkins High Female Athlete of the Week. Last week, Addie competed in the Class AA Region II championships at Camp Kidd. She took top honors finishing in 1st place with a time of 21:59. She and the rest of the Lady Tigers will compete at the WV State CC meet this weekend. This is the 2nd Athlete of the Week honor for Addie. We wish her and the entire TIger team the best of luck this weekend!
This week we honor the EHS Football team as our Male Athletes of the Week. This team sets at 4-2 on the year. Last week due to the WV Covid color map, Randolph Co was gold. Which limited the Tigers to play either another gold county school or one in their own county. It just so happend that we had 2 ranked football teams in their respective classes in our county. The #12 Tigers and the #4 Bulldogs of Tygarts Valley. For the first time, these 2 schools met on the gridiron for Varsity play. It was no disappointment either. Both teams grinded it out with the Bulldogs coming out fast and ferocious taking an early 21-7 lead in the 1st quarter. But the Tigers coaching staff didn’t panic and this resonated to the players as well. They chipped away in the 2nd quarter and found themselves ahead by 2 leading into halftime. They never looked back as they claimed a 39-34 victory. It is easy to agree that both teams are very special this year and we believe are going to do great things as the season unfolds. This win had multiple outstanding moments and individuals who put up great stats, but at EPT&SIC we truly feel this was a team win that each player taking the field contributed and helped secure the win. This was a great job by the coaching staff making adjustments as the game was being played out. We say congratulations to the EHS Football team and coaches! They are now setting in the 11th spot during a bye week. Keep up the great work Tigers!
This week we celebrate our female athletes by recognizing the Elkins High School Cheerleaders! Last week during the Facebook Livestream game against Tygarts Valley, for the first time the fans and general public could watch and hear our cheerleaders doing their thing. They sounded and looked awesome! Their enthusiasm and school spirit really came through. We can’t imagine how difficult it has been for this group traveling away for select games and cheering for a very limited and social distanced crowd, but they continue to work hard and embrace cheer and support the team each game. Congratulations to the EHS cheerleaders. We are proud of you and wish you the best this year!
This week we take to the links to introduce our male athlete of the week. Tanner Miller, a sophomore on the Elkins High golf team was the Tigers only member to qualify for the West Virginia State Golf Tourney being played at Olgebay Resort Golf course in Wheeling, WV this week. At regional play last week, Tanner shot an 85 in the Class AA Region II match at the Clarksburg Country club ensuring his spot in state play! We want to congratulate Tanner and wish him the best of luck!
