Addie Berdine EHS Cross Country

This week we congratulate Addie Berdine on being named our Elkins High Female Athlete of the Week. Last week, Addie competed in the Class AA Region II championships at Camp Kidd. She took top honors finishing in 1st place with a time of 21:59. She and the rest of the Lady Tigers will compete at the WV State CC meet this weekend. This is the 2nd Athlete of the Week honor for Addie. We wish her and the entire TIger team the best of luck this weekend!

EHS Football Team

This week we honor the EHS Football team as our Male Athletes of the Week. This team sets at 4-2 on the year. Last week due to the WV Covid color map, Randolph Co was gold. Which limited the Tigers to play either another gold county school or one in their own county. It just so happend that we had 2 ranked football teams in their respective classes in our county. The #12 Tigers and the #4 Bulldogs of Tygarts Valley. For the first time, these 2 schools met on the gridiron for Varsity play. It was no disappointment either. Both teams grinded it out with the Bulldogs coming out fast and ferocious taking an early 21-7 lead in the 1st quarter. But the Tigers coaching staff didn’t panic and this resonated to the players as well. They chipped away in the 2nd quarter and found themselves ahead by 2 leading into halftime. They never looked back as they claimed a 39-34 victory. It is easy to agree that both teams are very special this year and we believe are going to do great things as the season unfolds. This win had multiple outstanding moments and individuals who put up great stats, but at EPT&SIC we truly feel this was a team win that each player taking the field contributed and helped secure the win. This was a great job by the coaching staff making adjustments as the game was being played out. We say congratulations to the EHS Football team and coaches! They are now setting in the 11th spot during a bye week. Keep up the great work Tigers!

EHS Cheerleaders

This week we celebrate our female athletes by recognizing the Elkins High School Cheerleaders! Last week during the Facebook Livestream game against Tygarts Valley, for the first time the fans and general public could watch and hear our cheerleaders doing their thing. They sounded and looked awesome! Their enthusiasm and school spirit really came through. We can’t imagine how difficult it has been for this group traveling away for select games and cheering for a very limited and social distanced crowd, but they continue to work hard and embrace cheer and support the team each game. Congratulations to the EHS cheerleaders. We are proud of you and wish you the best this year!

Tanner Miller-Sophmore EHS Golf

This week we take to the links to introduce our male athlete of the week. Tanner Miller, a sophomore on the Elkins High golf team was the Tigers only member to qualify for the West Virginia State Golf Tourney being played at Olgebay Resort Golf course in Wheeling, WV this week. At regional play last week, Tanner shot an 85 in the Class AA Region II match at the Clarksburg Country club ensuring his spot in state play! We want to congratulate Tanner and wish him the best of luck!

Dacey Arbogast-Senior EHS Volleyball

This weeks female athlete of the week is Dacey Arbogast. A senior on the Lady Tigers volleyball team, Dacey brings a terrific work ethic to every practice and game. She is delivering a 98% serve reliability this year ensuring each time she takes the service box, the Tigers are a high probability of winning the point. She may be quiet on the court, but her ability to organize the offense and deliver perfect sets has led to the Tigers high kill rate at the net and is one of the reasons for their success this season. Congrats to Dacey and the entire girls volleyball team this year!

Alexa Price-Sophmore EHS Girls Soccer

This week we congratulate our Female Athlete of the Week, Alexa Price. Last week during the Tigers game against Robert C. Byrd, Alexa delivered a Hat-Trick scoring all 3 goals for the Lady Tigers. They won the contest by a score of 3-1. Price scored her first 2 goals in the first half, then netted her 3rd score on a PK kick in the 2nd half sealing the win. Congratulations to Alexa and the Lady Tigers.

Rodney Vandevender-Senior EHS Football

Rodney Vandevender is our male athlete of the week. Last Friday night, Rodney put together a stellar performance as the Tigers routed the Colts of Philip-Barbour 36-0. Rodney was responsible for a total of 4 scores. The senior had 2 passing TD’s to teammate, Dante Ramirez. He was 4 for 7 passing for a total of 84 yds. On the ground, Vandevender rushed for 114 yds and 2 rushing TD’s from 4 and 15 yds out. He connected on 3 two-point conversions as well. The Tigers are now 2-2 and getting more production from a number of players. Congratulations to Rodney and the entire Tiger team!

Alexa Triplett EHS Girls Soccer

This weeks female athlete of the week is Junior Alexa Triplett. The girls soccer team is off to a terrific start and it starts with great leadership on and off the field. Alexa scored a pair of goals this past week in wins over Pocahontas County and North Marion. She has been a vocal leader to a rather young team and by working hard every day in practice and showing that same intensity on game day, it has pushed the younger players to bring up the level of their game. We want to congratulate Alexa and all the Lady Tigers on what is shaping up for not only a great season, but a continued successful program in girls soccer at Elkins High.

TJ Guire Elkins High Football

This week we look to the gridiron for our male athlete of the week. Standout TJ Guire has started off the season where he left off last year. The Tiger has been a presence on both sides of the ball this early season. This past Friday evening against North Marion, TJ showed his speed and versatility with a 63yd TD scamper. He tallied 115 total rushing yards on 10 carries. This after having to leave the game in the 3rd quarter due to a knee injury. We at Elkins Physical Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic are keeping TJ in our thoughts and the Medical team in hopes to see him back out there this year. We are continually impressed at the hard work and dedication the entire Tiger team puts forth each and every week. Congratulations TJ!

Charlie Smoak EHS Cross Country

Congratulations to Charlie for his runner-up finish at the Frankfurt Invitational cross country meet this past Saturday. Charlie broke the old course record by 23 seconds and was just 2/10 of a second off of first place and the new course record! We are proud of Charlie and the entire Tiger team for keeping the faith they would compete this year and worked every day over the summer in a time of such uncertainty. All the area athletes and students continue to be the bright light in our community and we are proud and happy to continue the 3rd Annual Athlete of the Week this year!
